JLI Access Channel

The Jacob Leadership Institute serves as a resource center to all architects and associates as well as traditional practitioners, teachers, and those in alternative careers.In JLI’s first year, three programs were implemented, all designed to advance leadership skills.
Program 1: Leadership Program
During the 2015 Legislative Session, JLI held a five-hour leadership development program at the state capitol, educating attendees on the importance of getting involved in leadership at all levels. State Legislators and others addressed the attendees, providing testimonies about their road to leadership roles, both personally and professionally.

Opportunities for Leadership: Sen. Bill Montford, D-Tallahassee, shares anecdotes and lively stories about his career in leadership positions. Citizen Architect Intern Donald Gray, Assoc. AIA, talks about what it takes to be a leader.
Panel Discussion: Panelists include: Jacksonville City Councilman Bill Bishop, AIA; Sherryl Muriente, Assoc., AIA; J.J. Scott, AIA, LEED AP BD+C; Mickey Jacob, FAIA; and Rep. Debbie Mayfield, R-District 54. Group discusses the ins and outs, ups and downs and how to’s of leadership.
Why Lead, Why Get Involved: Rep. Kathleen Peters.R-St. Petersburg, talks about her unusual path to becoming a state representative and why it’s important to get involved in the community.
Program 2: JLI Leadership Sessions at AIA Florida Convention
JLI held educational sessions at AIA Florida’s 2015 Annual Convention, including two panel discussions and two speaker presentations. Sessions included:

Business Leadership Development.

The Architect in Social Media.

Building Your Leadership Brand to Promote Expertise.

Community Leadership Development (elevating architects to a place of influence).
Out of the 25 sessions at the convention, attendance in the four JLI sessions was in the top 11, with a sell-out crowd in the Business Leadership Development session.
Program 3: Access Channel
Leadership development resources and content relevant to architects is readily available on JLI's Access Channel, serving as an educational toolkit. Content on the Access Channel includes links to local, state and national leadership programs, podcasts, interactive blog discussions, and links to other helpful leadership websites.
