Specifying and Installing Thin Veneers (ASLA Accredited)

Cohesive and resilient designs are hard to achieve.­ This course offers a basic review of thin veneer applications, aesthetic opportunities and specifications for vertical surfaces.­ Highlighting “Industry Best Practices” for installation.

PICP Design and Construction (ASLA Accredited)

This presentation provides an introduction to permeable interlocking concrete pavement (PICP) systems. An overview of the problem with impervious surfaces and the advantages of Low Impact Development, specifically storm water infiltration practices through pavement surfaces.­ The presentation addresses designing for hydrological and structural requirements, and reviews required details. The design approach discussed is based on the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute’s PICP design manual. Specifications and maintenance requirements are reviewed along with information on winter performance. Several project case studies illustrate the construction process.

Design & Detail of Reinforced Hollow Clay Masonry
Speaker:­ Chris Lindsey AIA, Interstate Brick

Using best practices, the participant will learn the concept of hollow clay masonry units and the design of structures, the moisture and thermal analysis concepts of brick masonry walls and the impact on the building’s energy requirements. The participant will become knowledgeable about the environmentally friendly practices in the manufacturing process of hollow clay masonry units and the detailing of hollow clay masonry to construct long-lasting, flexible and environmentally friendly buildings.­

This seminar has been approved by GBCI for LEED AP continuing education requirements

IECC Masonry Review and Compliance Options­­­­

Changes in the Model Energy Codes, (International Energy Conservation Code) are creating challenges for architects in specifying wall systems.­ This presentation will discuss exterior wall requirements of IECC & continuous insulation, offer insight into which masonry wall systems offer continuous insulation, present benefits and limitations of new and old wall systems, and allow the architects to apply this knowledge on future projects.
