Philosophy
As an architect, I am deeply committed to advancing our profession and serving the broader community. Through my involvement with AIA, I have had the privilege of engaging at both the local and state levels, collaborating with design professionals, community leaders, and students on key issues such as advocacy, resiliency, and inclusivity.

At the heart of my philosophy is a strong belief in the transformative power of architecture — a force that shapes lives and strengthens communities by creating spaces that inspire and uplift. This philosophy is rooted in a commitment to service, relationship-building, and mentorship. I believe in the power of collaboration to demonstrate the importance of design and its profound impact on the built environment.

Our profession is unique, and it is essential that we empower architects to make meaningful contributions to their communities. I look forward to the opportunity to help further the mission of AIA Florida and support its members.

Vice President 2026-2027 (Two positions available)

Stacey Boynton, AIA

Stacey Boynton, AIA, and NOMA, is a South Florida native with a passion for architecture and design. Her journey began at Northeast High School, which was once a magnet school for architecture and design. From there, she went on to pursue her master’s degree in architecture and community design at the University of South Florida.

After graduating, Stacey worked as an architectural designer at several firms, dedicating years to honing her craft. During this time, she worked tirelessly to obtain her architectural license.

Today, she leads her practice at STUDIO-US DESIGN, a core part of her broader STUDIO-US vision. The brand is built on three pillars:

  • DESIGN- which focuses on architecture and interiors with a clean, thoughtful vibe.

  • LIVING- a curated collection of lifestyle accessories beginning with signature candles designed to inspire.

  • LOOK- a future vision aiming to enter the cosmetic world.

She is involved in volunteer work that supports architecture and representation in design. She is currently a committee chair and task force advisory council chair for AIA Fort Lauderdale and AIA Florida. She is also the immediate past president of Soflo NOMA and actively supports BAM by helping to uplift the next generation of designer.

Philosophy

"Lead by example, inspire beyond myself and have some fun.”

There are over 100,000 licensed architects in the US and black women make up less than half of one percent. That’s not just underrepresentation, that’s nearly invisible. I strongly feel I cannot wait for permission. I must lead and step into rooms where we haven’t always been seen and make sure the door stays open behind me. Because architecture needs more voices, more perspectives and a vision that reflects everyone.

I’m here to lead by example, inspire beyond myself and have some fun while doing it.

Vice President 2026-2027 (Two positions available)

Brooke Godinez, AIA

Brooke Godinez is a past president of AIA Florida Northwest and co-founder of the chapter’s Women in Architecture Committee, where she currently serves as co-chair. At the state level, she serves on the Advocacy Committee, Women in Architecture Committee, EDI Advisory Council, and FAPAC Board of Directors. She has chaired the Membership Task Force for two years and served on this year’s Convention Committee. Brooke is a 2024 graduate of Jacob Leadership Institute and received a presidential citation last year for her contributions to AIA Florida.

Brooke is passionate about architecture and enjoys engaging with others to share her enthusiasm for the profession.

Philosophy

AIA Florida represents a diverse group of professionals across 13 components. We live in urban and rural areas, work at large multidisciplinary firms and as sole proprietors. We are students, academicians, public servants, and consultants. From emerging professionals to seasoned practitioners, our collective challenge is ensuring all voices are heard and respected. We must learn from experienced members while embracing emerging technologies to evolve our practice. We share the responsibility of protecting the public and influencing policy. Advocacy plays a crucial role in shaping a profession that reflects our communities.

With over 15 years experience at both small and large firms, I’ve learned that growth stems from challenge, and each step on my path has reinforced the importance of purpose-driven work. I’m committed to advancing knowledge, encouraging licensure, and promoting the value of architecture.

As architects, we don’t just design buildings – we build communities, opportunity, and trust. I view leadership as a responsibility to serve, mentor, and empower others to grow and lead. AIA leadership has shown me the power of collective action, where small efforts can create big impacts. Through mentorship, supporting licensure, and legislative engagement, I’m committed to empowering others and driving meaningful change to advance our profession.

Vice President 2026-2027 (Two positions available)

He also serves on the board of directors of the Collier County Community Land Trust where he was previous chairman. He is a member of AIA, ULI and USGBC.

Philosophy

I firmly believe that as leaders we have an obligation to not only communicate but demonstrate the value of the architect. Throughout my career I have integrated this into my practice, community involvement and AIA service.

I look for opportunities to demonstrate how architects innovatively solve problems and make places improving the quality of our lives. In my own community revitalization practice, I use public engagement to expose neighborhoods to a vision of a better place to live and work through planning and design. In my service on community boards, I take advantage of televised public forums and hearings that I conduct to communicate how architecture impacts all aspects of our lives.

My service includes volunteering for committees, task forces and boards that impactfully demonstrate my philosophy. Whether it is from my position as chairman of the Florida Foundation for Architecture, Design Review Board, the Affordable Housing Advisory Committee or my position on AIA boards of directors, I always seek to demonstrate the importance of our profession to society.

If elected Vice President, I will be honored to serve—but more than that, I will use this role to champion my philosphy that architects bring profound value to society, and only architects can truly communicate that value to our communities.

Vice President 2026-2027 (Two positions available)

Tim is married with three children and two grandsons (Timothy III and Deacon). He spends his free time gardening, golfing and auto mechanics.

Philosophy

I believe that an architect is a leader. The architect leads in the thought process, development of an idea and leads in helping it to come to fruition. We as architects must not relinquish our positions as leaders, because we are advocates for the health, safety and welfare of the public. An architect must be at the forefront to help guide the public in matters that relate to the built environment, so that the outcomes are positive and sustainable for the future.

Vice President 2026-2027 (Two positions available)

James Piatchuk, AIA

I am a Sarasota native, born and raised. Growing up in and around historic, mid-century, Sarasota School of Architecture projects was – and still is – a cherished, everyday aspect of life.

My time at the University of Florida included a semester of overseas studies at the School of Architecture’s Vicenza Institute of Architecture. I earned my Bachelor of Design (Architecture) degree, with a minor in Business Administration, and professional Master of Architecture degree, all from the University of Florida.

I have 25+ years of working experience in architecture, mostly on numerous and varied projects in the Sarasota area since 1994. I became a Florida-licensed architect in 2009. I was project architect for the 2010 AIA FLGC award-winning Sterling Park office building. I have had my own local firm since 2014.

I’ve been active in the Gulf Coast chapter since 1998. I’ve served on and/or chaired various committees, including for the Sarasota Design Conference. Most recently, for the FLGC chapter, I have been Secretary, Vice President, President (2 terms), Immediate Past-President, and currently State Director.

I am currently a member of the Sarasota County Board of Zoning Appeals and have been since 2015. I was a member of the Sarasota County Historic Preservation Board from 2019 – 2023.

Philosophy

Everything that is made – nearly everything that we see, hear, touch, smell, or walk in, under, or around – has been through a design process that can be done well, poorly, or indifferently, with the corresponding results. The exact quality of our day-to-day lives is overwhelmingly impacted by the quality of our design process and execution.

The technical and aesthetic worlds go hand-in-hand. A project can be technically perfect, but not aesthetically expressive or great architecture. It is very rare for a work of architecture to be accepted and recognized as excellent aesthetically which is not also excellent from the technical point of view. Good engineering and technical skills are necessary, but not enough in and of themselves, to produce good architecture.

Successful projects also work at varying scales; from the macro to the micro.

Relationships are vital to the success of any project. Good projects don’t come about without good teams and good clients.

The architect’s role, when possible, is to go beyond reductive consensus. We can develop possibilities of realization that were previously unimagined.

Architecture can be variously all-encompassing, technical and aesthetic, varying in scale, inherently collaborative, utterly creative, and aspirational, all toward the uplifting, betterment, and improvement of humanity and the world in which we live.

.Vice President 2026-2027 (Two positions available)

Jaime Sobrino, FAIA

Jaime E. Sobrino, FAIA, PMP, LEED AP, is a proven leader dedicated to advancing the architectural profession through service, mentorship, and strategic vision. With over 27 years of experience, he has led teams, studios, and organizations with a focus on excellence and purpose. As Vice President and Director of Operations for LEO A DALY’s Florida studios, Jaime drives operational success while fostering a culture of collaboration and growth.

His longstanding service to the American Institute of Architects underscores his deep commitment to the profession. Jaime has held influential roles including Moderator of the AIA National Strategic Council, President of AIA Puerto Rico, and Founder of the AIA Miami Christopher Kelley Leadership Program. His leadership has shaped initiatives that empower architects, expand professional opportunities, and strengthen the AIA’s impact at local, regional, and national levels.

Elevated to the AIA College of Fellows for his service and leadership, Jaime brings a bold, inclusive perspective to every role he undertakes. As AIA Florida Vice President, he is committed to championing members’ voices, nurturing future leaders, and positioning architects at the forefront of community and industry transformation.

Philosophy

The future of architecture depends on our ability to evolve the way we practice, lead, and deliver value. I believe the AIA must be a catalyst for redefining architectural practice—not just as a design service, but as a strategic, entrepreneurial force shaping resilient communities and economies.

With nearly three decades of experience leading operations, managing multimillion-dollar projects, and mentoring teams across diverse markets, I’ve seen how business acumen, innovation, and strong leadership empower architects to thrive. As Vice President, I will champion the growth of practice-focused initiatives—equipping members with the tools to run successful firms, master project delivery, and adapt to an increasingly complex marketplace.

We must create an ecosystem where architects lead with confidence—grounded in both design excellence and business intelligence. By investing in firm leadership, operational strategy, and professional development, we elevate the profession from within.

My vision is for AIA Florida to become the national model for advancing architectural practice—where every member is empowered to grow a prosperous, purposeful career. Together, let’s design the future of our profession.

Associate Director at Large 2026-2027

Mayroon Yacoub, Assoc. AIA

I was born and raised in Miami, Florida and was forced to go to the University of Miami by my parents...just kidding! I am so fortunate to have earned a Masters in Architecture with a certificate in Historic Preservation right here in my hometown. Since graduation, I have worked on many projects, notably boutique-sized historic preservation projects in Miami and Miami Beach and several commercial and hospitality projects in historically designated areas. I have been working in my current firm since 2018 and wear many hats, mostly as a project manager, interior architect, and interior designer.

Philosophy

I am in the middle of my second year an associate board member for AIA Miami. Since the start it has been a great learning experience for me.

I am part of Architects in the Making (AIM), which I believe contributes to my philosophy of: architecture is not a career, it’s a community commitment! Helping kids from all backgrounds learn and appreciate architecture is a great starting point to start a cycle of inspiring and mentoring.

Being an associate member for AIA Miami also opened the door for me to be involved with AIA Florida associates activities, which was additionally rewarding for me. These dedicated individuals were also very inspiring, and I believe I have been inspiring to them in return. Members loved hearing about all the activities in Miami’s chapter I had reported, especially about AIM, that they are now inspired to give back to their local community’s youth in a similar way.

In 2025, I hope for the opportunity to be an Associate Director at Large in order to contribute in more ways. After over a year of observing, learning, and absorbing the vocal members and all that they do (they make it look so easy), I would love to harness my experience and grow with the board.

State and Territory Associate Respresentative (STAR) 2026-2027 (appointed by the AIA Florida board)

Sara A. Jimenez, Int’l. Assoc. AIA

Sara Jimenez is a senior project and construction management professional with over 20 years of experience leading projects from concept to completion. Born and raised in Mexico, she earned her Bachelor’s in Architecture from Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana before moving to Miami in 1999. There, she completed a Master’s in Construction Management at Florida International University, broadening her expertise across the entire building process.

Sara is passionate about interdisciplinary collaboration and champions integrated teams—designers, engineers, and builders—working together from the earliest stages of a project. Her diverse portfolio includes educational, healthcare, hospitality, commercial, residential, and mixed-use developments.

An AIA international associate, she serves as Co-chair of the Women in Architecture Committee for AIA Miami and is committed to mentoring early-career professionals and supporting their growth.

Outside of work, Sara is a dedicated triathlete, runner, and two-time Ironman finisher. She lives by the words of Ayn Rand:

“The question isn’t who’s going to let me; it’s who’s going to stop me.”

Philosophy

In the words of Sverre Fehn, “Each material has its own shadow… The shadow penetrates the materials and radiates its message.”

Just like these shadows, associate AIA members are richly diverse, from emerging professionals stepping into practice to international associates navigating the unique, often challenging path toward U.S. licensure.

As a seasoned professional, I’m passionate about mentorship that reaches beyond the workplace. I've shared my insights at Florida state convention, WIA Florida meetings and through diverse events as co-chair of Women in Architecture. Through this role, and as a proud member of Arquitina, I’ve seen the importance of visibility and representation firsthand. I aim to bring that same focus to associate members by actively channeling their needs into local and state-level conversations and events.

I understand the complexity immigrant professionals face, the challenges minority architects encounter as the “first of a generation,” and the balancing act many associates manage as they pursue licensure while building careers and personal lives.

My background gives me a unique, empathetic perspective—one that allows me to effectively advocate for associate members at both the state and national levels of our profession.

State and Territory Associate Respresentative (STAR) 2026-2027 (appointed by the AIA Florida board)

Alyssa Scherger, Assoc. AIA

Alyssa earned her Bachelor of Architecture from Florida Atlantic University in 2023, having previously completed her associate degree while in high school. While at FAU, she served as vice president of AIAS and was honored with the Alpha Rho Chi Medal, recognizing her leadership and service. Her involvement with AIA began after attending Legislative Day, where she quickly recognized the critical role advocacy plays in shaping the profession.

While at FAU, Alyssa collaborated on an industry-sponsored research project with Google, led by Dr. Joseph Choma, focused on designing deployable structures for global community engagement. Her studio thesis, Deep Semantics—Crafting Design Semantics Universes, was presented internationally at the International Conference on Computational Design and Robotic Fabrication and later published.

After graduation, Alyssa joined ODP Architects. Alyssa is a founding board member and the communications chair of the FAU School of Architecture Alumni Network, fostering professional growth and connection within the architectural community. She has actively served on the AIA Miami and AIA Fort Lauderdale Emerging Professional Awards and Design Awards Committees. Currently, Alyssa is the associate director for AIA Fort Lauderdale, where she led the AIA Trust Grant application to establish a shared ARE study resource program and peer-supported study group reducing financial barriers and increasing licensure rates among associate members.

Philosophy

As an emerging professional, I believe in the power of representation, communication, and community to shape the future of architecture. The STAR role presents a unique opportunity to uplift associate members by connecting them with resources, amplifying their concerns, and celebrating their achievements.

My philosophy is rooted in connection, service, and consistent support. Whether through my involvement as AIA Fort Lauderdale's associate director, AIA committees, AIAS, leadership within the FAU SoA alumni network, or my work as a design professional, I’ve learned that we grow strongest when we build together. Advocating for associate members means not only sharing resources but also listening to their needs and celebrating their contributions.

By maintaining open dialogue between chapters, national leadership, and peers, I aim to foster a culture of inclusivity and opportunity. Whether through advocacy, mentorship, or innovation, I hope to be a bridge between what is and what’s possible for all Associate members. Architecture is about more than the spaces we design, it’s about the community we create.
